A Bit of Welcome Nostalgia

As many of you have more than likely heard by now, Toonami is making a triumphant return to television. A couple of days ago, Adult Swim announced that they would be bringing back the popular anime/action block starting on

May 26. For those of you who may not remember, Toonami was a programing block that aired in the late afternoon on Cartoon Network (back when they, you know, showed cartoons). The block featured a lot of action shows like Teen Titans and Justice League unlimited as well as a fair amount of anime including Rurouni Kenshin, Dragonball Z, Gundam and more. In 2008, Toonami aired its last episode and faded into the echelons of memory. Four years later, April Fools day 2012, Adult Swim aired Toonami for one night, with classics like Gundam, Big O and Tenchi Muyo. Afterwards AS asked on twitter if people wanted it back, the answer was a resounding “OH GOD YES!”

The lineup hasn’t been released yet, but according to ANN the block will feature “New original anime programing”. Whether this means that AS will co-develop new series like IGPX or Big O, or if that means newer shows like Panty and Stocking and Gurren Lagann will get some screen time is unclear. The schedule on AS’s website only shows a week ahead so we’ll wait and see if they update it with the new lineup. I personally have high hopes for the returning classics and new shows (whatever they may be).

I can’t wait either. My parents are gonna hate me for staying up and watching this.
